This flagship store located in 66-68 Colon Street (Valencia) is a four-floor building situated within the centre of a new vibrant retail environment. The project features four levels of retail space which consists of 2628 squared metres.
Arce Clima was engaged in a Design&Construct Mechanical contract and provided compliant D&C works for all Base Building Levels. The project included certain criteria with sustainable building specifications. It assesses building processes and its situation. A global revision of the project has been done to verify that is environmentally friendly and complies the energy efficiency standards.
Achievement of LEED Certification
The process starts off with the consulting chosen by the client. They assess the state of the building and deliver us a list of requisites which need to be complied. From that starting point, the certification level that can be achieved is set.
The client normally works with gold or silver certifications and, depending upon the building´s situation and its features, Arce Clima try to achieve the highest one. In order to attain the LEED certification, it is necessary to get eighty points at least, which is the highest which can be achieved.
Afterwards, the consulting does a couple of inspections to evaluate and verify that these features are being complied. If everything goes well, they issue a certificate in which the US Green Building Council has to agree and verify the information is correct.
A demanding project: why energy efficiency is key
For this project, Arce Clima have decided to install a climate control system which best suits the building’s characteristics expecting a correct and functional operation regarding energy efficiency and quality standards.
Water- Cooled Chillers are located on the rooftop, carrying out the exchange of condensation air directly with the outdoors. They are on a concrete bench with standardised steel profiles and supported with anti-vibration elements.
Early engagement with Design allowed the development of a streamlined construction programme which drove a quick build and enabled the project to be delivered on time and on budget.
Indoor distribution is done through a duct network with a rectangular section using as air distribution terminal units’ lineal grills and double deflection grills with flow regulation.
Both in the impulsion and the return, fire dampers have been provided to place the duct with the correct section separation. They will be supplied with a thermal fuse with manual reset and position indicators.
With the aim of reset the built-in pressure switch between the extraction and outdoor air supply, two heat recovery systems have been provided, suspended from ceiling.
Control systems
The installation has a centralised control system which is able to control the whole installation incorporating temperature probes in both impulsion ducts and return as well. Combined humidity probes , temperature and CO2 are also part of this control system located across different areas of the commercial premises.
This control system allows for remote control which also enables visualization equipment performance and temperature conditions, humidity and CO2 across different sections of the flagship store.
Staff area incorporates a detection probe which controls the indoor unit in case there is nobody around to be switched off.
Project handover and result assessment
Once the project has been finished, the outcomes have been evaluated by the Project Team to check its correct operation and performance. The systems installed comply with each of the HVAC systems optimization standards previously designed in the planification phase.
Arce Clima worked with an outlined consultant brief to take the design to a commissioned , fully functional retail premises, getting the highest energy efficiency certification: Platinum status.
