This cycle will be imparted, together with IES Universidade Laboral de Culleredo, during the next academic courses. On that occasion, we have talked to María Nieto, driving force of the Dual VT in the IES Universidade Laboral, for her to tell us more about this training.
WHAT IS THE DUAL VOCATIONAL TRAINING?
The Dual Vocational Training is a method that combines curricular training with company work, which must represent at least the 33% of the hours set in the training. The goal is to facilitate the students the integration into the labour market, because that will provide them a vocational training which, in addition, involves the integration into the company’s production processes.
WHAT ARE THE DUAL VOCATIONAL TRAINING ADVANTAGES?
As María Nieto explains, “In addition to the educational centre, the company participates very actively in the learning process of the students who study in Dual VP. In traditional VT this participation is lower. That is why when we talk about advantages, we must talk about the advantages for the companies, for the student body and, lastly, for the educational centre”.
There is an obvious advantage for the student body: staying in the company provides Social Security and an economic retribution. This modality has a greater ease of employability: It is estimated that 70% of the graduates of a dual cycle have a job, compared to 50% who studied the cycle without the dual option. The student will learn by working and will increase their motivation for the training, which is also much more complete, since complementary training is added to the curricular training.
This way you will be able to “contact the real world of the company”, María notes, “and to acquire more working and professional expertise habits related to the traditional vocational training”. You will also note “in a practical way if what you have been trained for in the educational centre fits your profile, interests and skills”.
“The students body participating this year in the Dual VT perceives a lot of possibilities of getting the chance to obtain a degree, while at the same time receive income” María tells us. “They also feel like employees of the company, even though they are still students. I have to say that the student body we have at the IES Universidade Laboral is delighted”.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE COMPANIES?
On one side they will be contributing “to create a quarry of future employees and to provide the generational replacement of the workforce”. On the other side you will be able to “enhance the enterprise competitiveness, because it forms future employees with the culture and work habits of the company”.
And lastly, related to the educational centre, The VT facilitator tells us about her contribution to improve the labour insertion of students and knowing the news and trends of companies, thus transmitting them in the classroom to student-apprentices and achieving greater interrelation with the productive fabric of the sector. Also, in this way you will be able to update the teachers in the companies: the teachers of the centre can access facilities, machinery and new technologies that companies have, and to which the centre can hardly have access.
UPPER CYCLE OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND SOLAR ENERGY
This vocational training trains the students in the following areas of expertise:
● Energy efficiency.
● Assembly and maintenance of the facilities (electric, conditioning and renewable energies).
● BIM (Building Information Modelling)
● Software applications: Autocad, Revit, Cype, Hulc, CE3X, DIALUX, THERM.
Upon completion, the student will have obtained the professional qualifications listed below:
- Professional carnet for thermal installations in buildings (RITE)
● Professional carnet for equipment manipulator with refrigeration systems up to three kilos of fluorinated refrigerants
● LRP Training – Basic Level (60H)
● Specific LRP Training – Plumbing and Conditioning (6H)
● Specific LRP Training – Works at heights (6H)

It reminds us that, at the same time the student is being trained (in this case, the title of Top Technician in Energy Efficiency), he/she will receive essential training for the implementation of their work safely as the Training of the Basic Level of LRP, LRP training in their jobs, as the training that educates the workers to use the lift platforms, wheelbarrows, height works and scaffoldings.
For all these reasons, this first edition starts with the best of successes. The response from the students has been very favourable and we have already filled the student quota.
