II Once Arce Clima Cup, a competition we would like to consolidate, in which blind athletes run along their coaches to compete against other athletes. A competition which works towards equality and inclusion of disabled athletes to reinforce the values of sport in our society.

There were different leading personalities such as Marta Miguez, Sports General Secretary of the Galician government. She came along with  the Province Sports General Manager, Roberto Garcia and the representative of the foundation for the blind, Nieves Fernandez.

Moreover, mayor of Sada, Benito Portela, attended the event and we had the opportunity to interview him. He gave us insights about these type of initiatives and how could companies enhance the participation of disabled athletes in these competitions.

Considering he is one of the co-founders of Sada Athletics Club and has a passion towards sport, he gave us some insights about inclusive sport and the importance of businesses being part of these sport events supporting disabled athletes.

We have been told you are a fan of sports. What sports do you practice and which ones would you like to have practiced?

I have played different sports throughout my life, especially football and handball. Also, I am one of the founders of Sada Athletics Club.

Nonetheless, since I am a mayor, I do not have enough time to do as much sport as I used to do back in the days.

What is the role of sport in society?

Sport should play a fundamental role within a responsible and healthy society. Luckily, there are many important clubs competing in different sports in Sada so collaborating with them is a must in order to foster their passion towards sport activities.

How important is for the council the fact that Sada Athletics Club is one of the most reputed clubs in the whole region?

After so many years practicing sport, it is very satisfying to witness the evolution of the club. It is a pride for a fifteen thousand people village to have one thousand and five hundred members. In fact, when I share the club achievements on social media other athletes congratulate me for having such a determined club.

What is your opinion of these type of sponsorship in these events?

It is very important that companies like Arce Clima do collaborate with these initiatives. I believe that firms which want to stand out should be part of these events as they combine sport and well being. Moreover, inclusive sport is one of the best investments which any firm could make in fostering integrative activities.
