The redevelopment of the Torrecárdenas Shopping Centre includes eight commercial premises with over 7000 m2 of retail floor space. The notable part of the project is the application of BIM methodology from our Engineering team within the Fire Protection division.
First of all, let´s have a project overview to analyse the most relevant aspects tackled by Arce Clima.
GUARANTEEING FIRE DETECTION AND MAXIMUM SAFETY
Within our scope for this project, Arce Clima was tasked with design and installation for the shopping centre. Fire Detection services included:
- A fully compliant combined Automatic Fire Sprinkler & Hydrant System to AS2118.1
- A fully compliant Hose Reel System to AS2441
- A fully compliant Hydrant System to meet AS 2419
- Compliant Portable Extinguishers to AS2444
- A fully compliant Fire Detection system to AS1668.1 and Emergency Warning Intercommunication system to AS1670.4
- Fire Pump Set system to meet AS2941
Over 25 metres of new smoke protection which, in case of fire, would go down to three metres to avoid smoke coming in the hall and spreading around quickly.
POTENTIAL OF BIM METHODOLOGY IN THIS PROJECT
Use of BIM methodology is often used at Arce Clima to tackle numerous installations. BIM in a Climate control in a mall in Denmark was recently used to centralise all the information in this methodology. On that occasion, we already explained how BIM was applied and the benefits that methodology brought to that installation.
In this case, BIM innovative methodologies were applied in one store in which the Engineering team and onsite division were constantly in contact in order to achieve a synergy which was reflected in the As Built procedure.
Many different drawings were created, including several sections, 3D views and planning tables. The possibilities offered by this methodology are huge, and our Fire Protection division is keen on leveraging them.
Redesigning of our installations was provided through DWF drawings. Additional detection was provided between commercial premises providing early warning from fire risks within the commercial site.
COMPLETION OF WORKS
The new shopping centre was opened to the public in March 2019 with the upgrades commented above.
