From quality grocery shop to premium gastropub

Canton 23 was inaugurated over a month ago, a demanding gastropub to delight anyone´s palate. Situated in the heart of A Coruña, Canton 23 renewal project delivered an exceptional and a unique experience which combines different atmospheres in only one venue.

The previous business, a classic grocery shop, had special design features in which nothing was left to chance: from the tiniest elements in classic merchandising to the typical furniture from that period… Every single detail was so meaningful thus the new premises had to keep the same quality standards.

On this occasion, Arce Clima did not have to face the largest project ever. However, design complexities along with space constraints were a challenge for us since the venue to be acclimatised had to provide an outstanding experience for their end users. Complete mechanical services installation including Revit drawings for the new restaurant were required.

Montesqueiro Group engaged Arce Clima as the design and HVAC contractor for the whole project. Climate control and extraction systems had to be adapted to each zone of the gastropub. Staff facilities featured customer spaces to deliver energy efficient solutions for user comfort.

A key feature of the project is the extraction system which has to operate in full occupancy of the venue without disturbing normal operation. Use of automatic system which works for both smoke extraction and different rooms ventilation and air supply was fundamental. These features resulted in a significant energy efficiency compared to older restaurant systems.

HVAC installation is formed by two condensers, one of which supplies air to two evaporator tanks. One of them faces the main bar and meeting room whereas the other one supplies air to the terrace. The project has been designed to adapt the climate control to a reduced number of people without interfering in the user´s experience.

Bespoke HVAC solutions to a reduced workspace

When it comes to tackle a project with restaurant and lobby areas, it is very important to combine both rigorous accessibility and architectural standards. The innovative HVAC solutions provided by Arce Clima show our capabilities to design, build and adapt prefabricated ductworks offsite. This led to a unified installation of the units and increase efficiency onsite.

Continuous changes in design made us adapt to the installation which was already done. Suspended light fitting had to be millimetre perfect. Required works combined with air supply and kitchen ventilation were so challenging not only for the time constraints but also for reduced dimensions. The project is notable for its design credential and operational excellence.

Arce Clima managed once again to deliver the project on time and within budget. The works commenced in August 2019 and finalised in November 2019. The project was executed with a high level of quality from assembly to the final outcome.
