A post about climate control installation of the CERN was recently published on this blog. Arce Clima took charge of design and installation of different systems in a brand-new laboratory of electromagnets. Today, still in Switzerland, we would like to tell you about our last project in the Helvetic country: a HVAC installation for the new EA Sports building in Geneva.
One of the most interesting features about this project is how Arce Clima managed to adapt to the constant changes which came about during the project. Would you like to learn more about this recently inaugurated building?

A drastic change to improve energy efficiency

Our works took place in a building located in Rue du Marché 17, Geneva. This new building constructed for EA sports incorporated improvements in its thermal production and ventilation systems. Moreover, cooling thermal production was out of service.

The scope of work comprised the supply, installation, commissioning and testing of the mechanical air handling systems and associated infrastructure.

According to the guidelines provided by the client, Arce Clima was in charge to renew the whole premises providing energy initiatives and Building Management Systems. To do so, our Engineering team provided a seamless installation to increase efficiency onsite.

Some of the changes implemented include but were not limited to:

  • Substitution of thermal production units
  • Installation and Air-conditioning and Ventilation in the building and close commercial premises
  • Installation of a new distribution cold pumped water system for each of the circuits planned.

Attention to detail, key to deliver this project on time and within budget

Complete works included renovation of five floors and the basement in which the major part of the installation occurred. Over 4000 kilograms of materials were needed to do this installation including change of ducts and adaptation of distribution networks.

Cold and hot water distribution was through an inox steel pipe AISI 304. This type of pipe allows for a quicker execution of works. The pipe installed in the engine room was different though: a black inox electrowelded DIN 2440. Ducts installed at the basement were galvanised steel Class B for the METU 20 execution.

With regards to production of thermal energy, we have installed a 270kw heat pump unit RCME 70 WH and two air handlers with rotative heat recovery: one for cooling function and the other one for the commercial premises exclusively.

A building full of surprises

One of the highlights of this installation was the fact that works never stopped at any point in the offices. We managed our way through to have the least impact on workers daily routine. That is one of the key points for Arce Clima: when we tackle an installation, we intend to disrupt workers as little as possible.

The project started in April and was finalised in June despite of finding out new improvements that needed to be done.

The first change occurred in the basement: we could not knock down the wall thus initial design and works execution had to go differently. In Arce Clima we are keen on adjusting to changes, therefore the project was redesigned and adapted to the new situation.

Each new change obliged us to act quickly and provide a rapid solution. One of the most complex solutions tackled was disassembling a whole Swegon unit to install it in the basement. To do so, piece by piece needed to be disassembled and assembled over again.

As one can see, Arce Clima focuses on providing quick changing solutions for any eventuality that might happen to be ready to optimise any installation.
