Geothermic heat pumps: a clean and efficient alternative for a climate control installation

Today, we would like to talk about geothermal energy applied to building climatisation. This type of energy  has been already discussed on other occasions. However, if this is the first time you visit our blog, we would like to remind you that geothermics is a Greek word that comes from “geos” (Earth) and “thermos” (heat) which could be translated as “heat released by the Earth”.

Special buildings: Bullitt Center

Special buildings: Bullitt Center

We are starting a new section on this blog. Our idea for this series of articles is to present various special buildings located all over the world. Each construction mentioned in this section will be there for a reason and shall be an example of excellence construction wise. Reasons? Energetic efficiency and sustainability rarely seen in recent times impossible designs perfectly executed or master solutions in the face of challenging projects.

Heat pumps in climatization

When a climatization system of an installation is tackled it is probable that the system will have to carry out a double-function; on the one hand, heat losses that come about in the coldest times of year have to be compensated and on the other hand, being able to minimize the heat effect in summer times. Depending on the climatology of each area, the temperature shift does not necessarily have to be really big. However, in places with huge temperature differences, the systems do have to work extra in order to keep the equipment standards correct.

This time, a large-scale project has been undertaken. In 2013, works commenced at Torito Hydroelectric Plant, situated in the region of Cartago, northwest of Costa Rica. With capacity of power generation of up to 50 MW, it allows for electricity supply to over 95,000 users. Due to this installation, Union Fenosa would become the biggest private electricity supplier in the country.
